When I first started self-publishing several years ago the publishing industry was already in the throes of massive change. To learn about the new world I was entering I followed a few key people in the industry such as Joe Konrath, Catherine Ryan Howard and David Gaughran.
I also joined ALLi (the Alliance of Independent Authors – the professional organisation for self-published authors) which is not only a great source of useful information for authors but also an opportunity to meet other writers, find readers and make new friends. Now, a few years later, I’m editing my fourth novel and also coach and run workshops for writers and aspiring authors, sharing with them the sort of information I found useful on my own writer journey.

Many traditionally published authors are taking control of their back catalogue once the rights have expired, and also self-publishing new work. Such authors are known as hybrid. They are joining other writers who choose to go down the self-publishing route. Whichever way you choose, the more information you have at your fingertips the better.
